LETTER FROM THE FRIENDS TO ELECT CARNITA ATWATER FOR GOVERNOR

We bring you greeting from the Friends to Elect Carnita Atwater for Governor of the State of Tennessee. Truly, this is a critical and historic moment in the State’s history. Dr. Carnita Atwater is the first African American woman to ever run for the Office of Governor in this state. She will be the “PEOPLE’S GOVERNOR”, hence placing people back into politics. Consequently, there has never been a black female Governor in our Nation’s history.

The three most authentic and ingenious attributes she possess are humbleness, people-centered attitude and her ability to encircle all cultures, races, genders, nationalities and religions.

It is time for a genuine change in the State of Tennessee that focus on the needs of the people especially the underserved, working class, middle-class and immigrants that deserve a chance to live the American dream.  As a forward-thinking Governor, she will leave no one behind!

Dr. Carnita Atwater will be a boots-on-the-ground Governor by taking the governorship to the streets. She will employ a hands-on approach with Tennesseans, therefore attempting to inoculate trust back into the people concerning the government consequently building a bridge of transparency and accountability.

We are at a perilous crossroad in the State of Tennessee where we need a person of integrity, tenacity and perseverance to bring Tennesseans back together in the spirit of unity. Dr. Carnita Atwater is just that person with an unwavering fortitude of boldness and unshakable strength. Her incredible history has been one of being unbossed and unbought to serve the people!

She has served as the Dean of Medical Studies which she was bestowed this position at age 28.  Governor Ned McWherter gave her a distinguish leadership award of being the youngest Dean in the State of Tennessee. In 2020, Governor Bill Lee gave her the exemplary award of serving the citizens across the State of Tennessee.  Dr. Carnita Atwater has also served in the capacity of Dean of Student Affairs, Academic Dean, Adjunct Professor, Nurse Home Administrator, and Public Health Educator.  She was the only African America female farmer in Shelby County, TN with a 100-acre farm who experienced USDA discriminatory practices.

Dr. Carnita Atwater is the first African American woman of proven community leadership running for Governor of the State of Tennessee. She has been devoted to the citizens across the State of Tennessee for over 45 years catering to their cultural, social and financial needs.  She has been instrumental in feeding over 10,000 homeless individuals and displaced veterans annually, donated 5,000 book bags with school supplies per year, donated 5,000 coats, hats, gloves and blankets per year, donated 200 air conditioner units to senior citizens per year, and created approximately 100 jobs for hard-to-place ex-felons/teenagers in the North Memphis community for several decades.  She has operated a free nutritional program and children educational center for the past 10 years to address illiteracy problems, gang affiliations, nutritional food deserts and environmental concerns that specifically affect the disadvantaged and marginalized neighborhoods that predominately involves African Americans.

She has served and protested with Labor Unions across the State of Tennessee in activities such as the Memphis Furniture Company Strike, Kellogg Strike, Firestone Tire Company Strike, Nylon Net Company Strike, Verisol Oil Company Strike and numerous others. Most recently, she has protested with local Labor Unions against the layoffs of UTHSC’s essential workers, Fight for $15 and Byhalia Pipeline MCAP “No Oil in Our Soil”.

Additionally, Dr. Carnita Atwater is the first person ever in the history of Tennessee to file a “WE CHARGE GENOCIDE” $20 Billion Dollar lawsuit against the City of Memphis, Shelby County and the State of Tennessee for systemic racism, gentrification, unfair housing inequities, discriminatory governmental policies and practices, environmental injustice, taxation without representation, judicial disparities, and criminal injustice.  She has a stanch history of  STANDING WITH THE PEOPLE!

Please join us in our progressive movement to secure the Office of Governor of the State of Tennessee in 2022 by placing Dr. Carnita Atwater into this elected position. It is undeniable she will be the only choice to bring balance and integrity to this position that suppose to represent all the citizens of the State of Tennessee and not just the rich.

The citizens of Tennessee can be the cultural refined oil machine that lubricate the wheels of justice in supporting Carnita Atwater’s political endeavor to go to the Capitol of Tennessee as Governor with the focus being on the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
